The Institute of Geography at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg is offering a PhD-Position within the BMBF-bundle project „CLASH – Climate variability and landscape dynamics in SE-Tibet and the eastern Himalaya during the Late Holocene reconstructed from tree rings, soils and climate modeling “. The position should be filled by 1st of October, 2011. Working place is Erlangen.
Key focus:
Within a joint Sino-German interdisciplinary bundle project the sub-project "Monsoonal variability and climate extremes during the last 2000 years in Bhutan and SE-Tibet derived from tree-ring parameters” is dealing with the reconstruction of regional environmental change. The successful applicant will join field trips to SE-Tibet with according time in the field. The applicant is expected to carry out dendrochronological and biogeochemical analyses on a self-dependant base in the laboratories of the Institute of Geography in Erlangen. With regard to the project aims, collected datasets have to be evaluated afterwards using multivariate statistics. Results should be published in appropriate peer-reviewed journals. In addition, the successful applicant will support the project coordinators.
Condition of employment:
Post-Graduate (Master- or Diploma) in Physical Geography/Geosciences.
Requested:
• superior, skilled Master- or Diploma degree in Physical Geography or a related discipline
• experience in geostatistics and geobiochemistry
• ability for analytical thinking in complex natural systems
• capability to integrate in a national and international working team
• willingness for field work in Tibet
• excellent level of English
